Specifications for Braille and Raised Lettered Building Directories


1.01		GENERAL
	A.	The General Document listed in the Index, including the
		General Conditions, Supplementary General Conditions and
		General Requirements are hereby made an integral part of this
		section.
	B.	This subcontractor shall review, in detail, all other
		sections of the construction specifications affecting the work
		of this section of the Specifications.

1.02		QUALITY ASSURANCE
	A.	Fabricator shall have manufactured ADA signage for a minimum
		of four years and have completed work equal to the scope of
		this project.

1.03		SCOPE
	A.	This section includes:
		1.  Interior building directories with raised lettering and
		    grade 2 braille.
		
1.04		SUBMITTALS
	A.	Submit standard color selection chips.
	B.	Submit manufacturer's product information sheet(s). 
	C.	Submit scaled or full size mock-ups of each sign type.
	D.	Submit one sign of any sign type.
	E.	Submit sign schedule.	
	
2.01		PRODUCTS
	A.	ADA compliant signs where shown on the drawings or otherwise
		indicated shall be manufactured by  MEMCO Merrimack Engraving
		& Marking Co. of Methuen, MA 1-800-726-1719.
	B.	Frame: Anodized aluminum in natural aluminum color.
		Directory Strips: 1/16" plastic, color to be chosen from
		manufacturer's standard color selection.
		Lettering: Raised 1/32", color to be chosen from
		manufacturer's standard color selection.
		Braille: Embossed to produce domed tops. Grade 2 braille shall
		be an integral part of the directory strip and not glued or
		friction fit to the directory strip face. 
	C.	One vertical side of directory shall be removable to allow
		directory strips to be changed.  Removable side shall be
		fastened with countersunk screws, color of screws to be the
		same as the frame.

3.01		INSTALLATION
	A.	Directories are to mounted by the manufacturer's
		recommendations, with concealed fasteners.
	C.	Assure directories are installed level.
